  • The Departmental Archives are open:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 8:00 - 17:00 and Wednesday from 8:00 – 12:00

  • Exceptional closures:

Shrove Monday and Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, mid-Lent, Good Friday, 27 May, 21 July, 2 November.


The research room is open to all.

Registration is free but mandatory (users must register with a currently valid identification card). After registration, a reader card is issued which allows research to be conducted.

Personal items must be left in the cloakroom prior to entering the research room. Secured lockers are available to readers.

Archival materials and library books can only be consulted on the premises.  

Organisation of the research room 

An inventory area that enables readers to consult research instruments and computer databases in order to find the listings they need to request access to documents.

A research area where original archival documents can be consulted.

A digital area where readers can consult digital archives, the Departmental Archives' WEB portal and the BISDARI database.

A microfilm room for the unlimited consultation of microfilms related to genealogical and notary research. Access to the microfilmed records of the other storage centres (National Archives of the Overseas Territories, Defence Department's Historical Service, Diplomatic Archives, National Archives, etc.) can be obtained upon request submitted to the research room's staff.

Research assistance

The research room staff welcome and accompany readers so as to help them find their way in the research room, to help them order archival documents and to advise them in their searches. However, their role is not to carry out readers' research. They also enforce the research room's rules.

The president of the research room provides scientific expertise in the event of complex historical research, handles exemption requests regarding the duration of document access and authorises public information reuse permissions.

A historical and archival library is freely available to facilitate research.


The Departmental Archives are authorised to issue copies of mortgage deeds that are dated beyond 50 years, as their conservation has been entrusted to them. Currently, the Departmental Archives hold registers:

  1. Up to 1936 for the Pointe-à-Pitre Land Registry*
  2. Up to 1939 for the Basse-Terre Land Registry*

*) Before turning to the Departmental Archives, applicants must obtain a formality statement from the Land Registry in the jurisdiction where the property is located, and make sure that the records are kept by the Departmental Archives. Requests for deeds can be made by mail or in person, at the Departmental Archives, upon submission of a formality statement.

On-site requests can only be handled on Monday and Thursday from 8:30 - 11:30 and 14:00 - 16:30.

Copies of deeds and certificates of conformity are billed at current rates. Copies are delivered two weeks after the request has been submitted or received.
